Noida International Airport — North India's New Aviation Hub

Noida International Airport, widely referred to as Jewar Airport or Jewar International Airport, is a brand new greenfield airport situated in Jewar, Gautam Buddha Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh, India. Its exact location is along the Yamuna Expressway, roughly 72 kilometres south-east of New Delhi.

The airport has been built to serve as the third commercial airport for the National Capital Region (NCR), complementing the already-saturated Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi and Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad. The project has been years in the making — originally conceptualised back in 2001 as the "Taj International Aviation Hub" — but it's only now, in 2026, that the vision has finally become a reality.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated Phase 1 of Noida International Airport on 28 March 2026, marking a historic moment for civil aviation and infrastructure development in Uttar Pradesh and the entire NCR region."

The airport is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG — the Swiss aviation company known for operating one of Europe's most efficient airports. The entire construction is handled by Tata Projects Limited under an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract.

Commercial domestic flights are expected to begin between mid-April and May 2026, with international operations planned from around September 2026. Airlines like IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express have already confirmed their intent to fly from DXN.

The Real Estate Boom Around Jewar Airport

No airport in India has quite triggered a real estate and economic surge the way Jewar has. Property prices along the Yamuna Expressway corridor have reportedly gone up 6x over the past five years, with plots in Jewar touching Rs 2,000 per sq.ft. in late 2024 alone — a jump of roughly 90% over five years.

This is not surprising. When a mega-infrastructure project of this scale arrives, it pulls in companies, logistics centres, hotels, IT parks, hospitals, and housing projects. YEIDA has already designated massive land banks for industrial, residential, and commercial development.

Property Price Growth — Key Areas

Yamuna Expressway (residential plots)↑ ~600%
Jewar Town (commercial)↑ ~90%
Greater Noida (residential)↑ ~55%
Noida Sector 148 belt↑ ~40%

Everything You Want to Know About Jewar Airport

Answers to the most commonly asked questions about Noida International Airport — from flights and facilities to real estate and connectivity.

Jewar Airport — officially named Noida International Airport — is a brand new greenfield international airport built in the Jewar tehsil of Gautam Buddha Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh, India. It sits along the Yamuna Expressway, approximately 72 km from central Delhi, about 40 km from Noida city, and roughly 25-30 km from Greater Noida. The airport is well placed to serve the wider NCR region, including Ghaziabad, Meerut, Agra, Mathura and Vrindavan, all of which previously had to depend entirely on Delhi's IGI Airport for air travel.
The IATA code for Noida International Airport is DXN. The ICAO code is VIND. The IATA code was officially assigned in 2023 and will be used across all flight bookings, baggage handling systems, airline operations and global aviation databases. When booking tickets, look for "DXN" as the airport code.
The airport was officially inaugurated on 28 March 2026 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, actual commercial flights haven't started yet. Based on current timelines, domestic passenger and cargo operations are expected to begin between mid-April and May 2026. The DGCA aerodrome licence was granted on 6 March 2026, which officially cleared the airport for flight operations. International flights are likely to begin later in 2026, with September 2026 being the target month mentioned by officials. Booking windows for domestic routes should open 2-4 weeks before services begin.
Three major airlines have confirmed their intent to operate from Noida International Airport in Phase 1: IndiGo (expected to lead domestic services), Akasa Air (which also plans to set up an MRO facility here), and Air India Express. Initial domestic routes are likely to connect major metro cities — Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Lucknow and others. International routes from Air India Express may cover Gulf destinations like Dubai and Sharjah initially.
The airport is being developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The private developer is Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), which is a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG — the Swiss company that operates one of Europe's busiest airports. Construction has been entrusted to Tata Projects Limited under an EPC contract. The government authority overseeing land and development is the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), while the state-level project coordination authority is NIAL (Noida International Airport Limited).
Delhi's IGI Airport is already running close to its full operational capacity, handling well over 70 million passengers a year. Jewar Airport has been specifically designed as a strategic decongestion solution — an alternative gateway for the NCR. Millions of travellers from Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, western UP, and even parts of Haryana now have a much closer option than making the long drive to Delhi. Over time as routes grow, airlines will naturally distribute flights between both airports, relieving pressure on Delhi's existing infrastructure. Companies already located in Noida's tech hubs can save up to 50% of their airport commute time.
The full airport development spans approximately 5,100 hectares (roughly 13,000 acres) of land allocated by YEIDA. Phase 1 covers about 1,300 hectares with a single terminal (T1) of 1,00,000 sq.m., one 3,900m runway, and initial capacity of 12 million passengers per annum. The four-phase master plan grows this to 4 terminals, 6 runways, and eventual capacity of 70 MPPA by Phase 4 (2040–2050). Looking further ahead, some projections put the long-term capacity at 120 to 225 million passengers annually, which would put it among the world's largest airports.
As of April 2026, there is no direct metro or rapid transit link to the airport yet. However, multiple projects are in various stages of planning and construction. The Greater Noida–NIA Metro (an extension of the Noida Aqua Line) has its DPR done but construction hasn't started. The Ghaziabad–Jewar RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System), a 71.1 km semi-high-speed rail corridor, is being planned for completion by 2031. A railway line (PNAKR) is under construction connecting the airport to the national rail network via Palwal and Khurja. For now, road access via Yamuna Expressway remains the primary way to reach the airport, with bus and taxi services operational.
Yes! Jewar Airport has been built from the ground up with DigiYatra integration. DigiYatra is India's biometric-based paperless travel initiative that allows passengers to use facial recognition for seamless entry and boarding — without needing to show physical boarding passes at every checkpoint. The airport is already equipped with DigiYatra e-gates at entry points, making it one of the most technically advanced airports in the country from day one.
Absolutely — this is actually one of the biggest tourism angles of Jewar Airport. Agra, the home of the Taj Mahal, is just about 100 km from the airport via the Yamuna Expressway. Mathura and Vrindavan are even closer at around 50-60 km. Previously, international tourists flying into Delhi had to then travel 200 km to reach Agra. With Jewar Airport, that journey shortens dramatically. As international routes expand, direct flights from Middle East, Southeast Asia and Europe could bring significantly more visitors directly to within easy reach of these iconic heritage destinations. This could be a big game changer for UP's tourism economy.
